What matters should be paid attention to when exporting candles to European and American markets

At present, according to the legal requirements for consumer products in the United States, the wick of candles must not contain lead. If the candle and candle holder are decorated with coatings, the total lead content of the surface coating must not exceed 0.06%. The terms of the legislation and the test fees for ITS are as follows:

- Total lead content of candle wick ASTM E1645 shall not detect RMB255/material
- The total lead content of the surface coating 16 CFR 1303 is less than 0.06% RMB255/material

In addition to the above statutory requirements, some retailers have put forward higher test requirements for the quality and performance of products according to the characteristics of candles and candle holders, mainly including the following items:

2. Whether the size is consistent with the nominal
3. The length of the exposed wick
4. Combustion
5. Stability (for candles with candlesticks)
6. The temperature of the candle holder when the candle is burning
7. The craftsmanship of the candle holder, whether there are defects such as favorable edges and sharp points
8. The rust resistance of the metal fittings of the candle holder

Whether there are sufficient safety instructions, etc., and the identification and address of importers and exporters and manufacturers.

The above test items need to be determined according to the characteristics of the product, so the test costs are also different.

The European and American markets have increasingly strict requirements for environmental protection, and the packaging materials of candles and candle holders also have environmental protection requirements.

According to EU Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste, the total concentration of lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium in packaging materials must not exceed 100PPM. The United States has a similar regulation, Model Toxic in Packaging Legislation, to regulate packaging materials, and the requirements are the same as those in Europe. The charging standard of ITS is RMB450/material.
